Twine Phiri’s wife demands US$15 500

children.
Keresiya bared it all much to the surprise of the gallery and told the court that her husband kicked her out of their matrimonial home labelling her a prostitute.

“Your Worship, I was unwilling to make this maintenance application, I but was forced to do so since I need to look after my children whilst at home. My husband called me a prostitute and chased me out of our matrimonial home,” she said.

She said at the moment, she was staying at her parents’ home since she had no alternative accommodation.

“I am currently staying at my parents’ home with my children and I need the money to cater for my children’s needs including food, taking them to and fro school,” said Keresiya.

Keresiya pleaded with the court that she preferred to keep her affairs secret but was forced to resort to the courts because of the circumstances.

“I am sorry to say this before the court. If one is a married woman, they should not parade their affairs to the world. In my situation, it is impossible since my husband failed to act reasonably and used to do everything under my nose. I cannot even tell how much he owns in monetary terms save for that he is the owner of Caps United team, head of PSL and owns a company called Twine Com,” she said.

The disgruntled Keresiya told the court that all she wanted was money for her children and prayed that they both get counselling from police officers.

In his response through his lawyer, Phiri said that he was willing to give her US$300 meant for food only and that he would incur all the expenses.

“The respondent is willing to take care of all the expenses including US$400 for the children’s travelling expenses, paying fees, medical bills and all that they need.

“He is even surprised that the applicant had already applied for maintenance hardly two weeks after she has moved out of their house,” he said.

Keresiya refuted the claim saying it was because of her husband’s abusive nature that kept her at a distance and denied being offered alternative accommodation.

Presiding magistrate Ms Nomsa Sabarauta deferred the matter to June 3 for ruling.
