THE Twins Association of Zimbabwe (TAZI) has been commended for promoting the welfare of multiple births and twins in this region of the continent.
Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Zambia, Charity Charamba, hailed TAZI presidents, Farai Lawyer Katonha and Tendai Mayor Katonha, and their delegation, when they made a courtesy call at the weekend.
They then commissioned a school for twins in Kanyama suburb and opened a Southern Africa Development Committee of Twins Association (SADCTA) office in Lusaka.
“I was not aware of the Association and their thrust, thank you for leading the region in addressing issues to do with multiple births and twins welfare,” said Ambassador Charamba. Your regional leadership has shown a great impact in coming up with a homegrown solution to end school dropouts, domestic violence, human rights infringements, among the mothers of twins, multiple births and orphans.
“The Association has given birth to the opening of schools for twins and multiple births.
“The opening of SADCTA offices, under the chairmanship of Katonha family, is a divine coincidence with the SADC chairmanship to be assumed by His Excellence President Mnangagwa in August, and we recommend that.
“Zimbabwe and Zambia share a bilateral relationship that has existed for a long time.
“Thank you for visiting the Zimbabwean Embassy before conducting your mission in Lusaka, Zambia.”
Fara Katonha said:
“We want to connect expecting mothers of twins and multiple births to access midwives and Obstetricians.
“We have been receiving cases where a husband abandons his wife for giving birth to twins or multiple birth.
“A number of women are struggling to make ends meet because they are looking after the twins as single mothers.
“Expecting mothers of twins and multiple birth need support and proper care to avoid death during delivery and we say no one should die while giving birth.”
