By virtue of South Africa being rated one of the top twelve African countries as far as club competitions are concerned, we will now have two clubs representing the country in the Caf Champions League instead of one. The same will apply in the Caf Confederation Cup. This means that South Africa will have four clubs participating in continental competitions this year. Absa Premiership champions, Mamelodi Sundowns and runner ups, Kaizer Chiefs qualify to play in the CAF Champions League while Nedbank Cup winners, Orlando Pirates and third place finishers in the ABSA Premiership, Bidvest Wits, qualify for slots in the Confederation Cup.
All four clubs have been asked to confirm their participation. PSL CEO, Brand de Villiers welcomed the news.
