TWO suspected armed robbers, who allegedly carried out a spree of car robberies in Harare, appeared in court yesterday facing charges of armed robbery and four counts of theft.

The suspects, John Nhira and Innocent Chigwaze, were remanded in custody until February 13 and were advised to apply for bail at the High Court by Harare regional magistrate Stanford Mambanje.

It is alleged that on December 2 last year, the suspects hired a car from Zindoga Shopping Centre to Epworth, robbed the driver, and stole the vehicle.

The car was discovered without its engine and gearbox at Nhira’s last place of residence in Darwendale on December 27.

The suspects were later arrested in Warren Park after stealing a Toyota Hiace.

They were subjected to mob justice in a video that went viral on social media early this week.

In another incident, the duo stole Tawanda Pamire’s Honda Fit in Mbare using duplicate keys.

They also stole another car that was parked at a car park in Warren Park which was recovered with no engine, windows and doors.
