TWO young British nationals have been slapped with hefty jail sentences after being caught red-handed trying to smuggle more than 66 kilograms of cannabis into Zimbabwe.

In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said Tihaise Darlin Elisha (19) and Taylor Tamara Simone (21), were convicted and sentenced to nine years behind bars — with three years suspended by the

Harare Magistrates’ Court following their arrest at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport on May 1.
“The couple had just landed on Ethiopian Airways Flight ET 873 when Zimbabwe’s elite CID Drugs and Narcotics detectives, acting on a tip-off, swooped in.

“A search of their four suitcases revealed 53 packets of dagga (local slang for cannabis) cunningly concealed inside luggage tagged with their names,” said the NPAZ.

The authority has since issued a strong warning to would-be traffickers worldwide, underscoring the country’s strict zero-tolerance policy on drugs.

“No matter your nationality, the law will catch up with you. Airports are not gateways for crime,” it said.
