Two Bulawayo teams storm into Netball Super League

Bulawayo’s ZETDC, Khami Prisons and ZRP Bulawayo joined 12 other teams from across the country to battle for the four Super League slots that were up for grabs.

ZETDC Bulawayo is the only team from Bulawayo which failed to get promoted while Chivhu Queens from Mashonaland East, Claymont Queens from Nyanga, Rusape Hospital from Manicaland, ZRP Kwekwe from Midlands, Jena Mines from Midlands, ZRP Harare, Support Unit Harare and Chocolate Queens from Harare and Murewa from Mash East joined the race for the top finish.

The 15 teams played in a round robin format and Khami Prisons emerged the winners with 20 points, ZimPost came second with 16 points while Chinhoyi University of Technology and ZRP Bulawayo got 15 and 14 points respectively.

Chivhu Queens, Murewa, Claymont Queens, Airport and Rusape Hospital arrived late and failed to fulfill some of their matches.

Zina fixtures secretary Agnes Chiroodza said the tournament was tough with the teams giving each other a good run for their money.

“We had a hard time coming up with winners as the teams were exceptional. Unlike in the past when we witnessed teams just coming up to the promotional play-offs to fulfill a fixture this time around the teams were eager to impress and they were clearly determined to be promoted into the Super league,” she said.

Khami Prisons secretary-general Takonana Nsala could not contain his excitement about the promotion and said they prepared for the challenge ahead.

“We managed to win all the games we played and even thumped Chivhu 34-0.

“The players did a good job and their training, hard work and the support we got from Zina Bulawayo and our department and the community was overwhelming.

“We are ready to tackle the challenges of playing in the Super League and I believe we have enough arsenal to make an impact,” Nsala said.

Costar Gondoroni for ZRP Bulawayo said among the police teams that came for the play-offs they were the best and gave credit to their hard work.

“There were four police teams and we were the best and I am so happy about the promotion. We worked hard as a team and prepared thoroughly for the tournament and it has paid off.

“It was a big event for us and we are ecstatic about the promotion to play in the premier league of netball,” he said.

Khami and ZRP Bulawayo join Railstars in the Super League which has 20 teams.
