TWO police officers have been implicated in the murder of a woman from whom they were trying to induce confession for allegedly stealing US$100.
The police officers are implicated with three other people.
The accused persons were remanded in custody to Thursday and were advised to apply for bail at High Court.
Gerald Mupandawana Makore (38), Nicola Kadonzvo (28), Judith Mangando (45), Tafadzwa Gerald Madzima (22) and Tavonga Munoda (21) were arraigned before the Norton Magistrates’ Court facing murder charges.
In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said the late Ruvimbo Kamugwala was tasked to clean Kadonzvo’s house.
“Kadonzvo later discovered that US$100 was missing, she teamed up with the other two people and started interrogating the now deceased,” NPA said.
“They assaulted her with switches, electric cables and open hands, they then went to the local police base where they met the two police officers.”
The NPA said the police officers assaulted Kamugwala with a button stick while she was handcuffed.
“Kamugwala admitted to stealing the money and stated that she had given it to a friend who denied the allegations,” the NPA said.
“She later said that she had hidden the money at home but nothing was found.”
Kamugwala died the following morning while she was being dragged to a local prophet.
