A MAN from Cowdray Park suburb in Bulawayo has appeared in court facing multiple charges of murder and attempted murder after he together with his accomplices allegedly attacked the victims with machetes and axes in a fight over a gold claim.
Thuthukani Dube recently appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Maxwell Dube facing two counts of murder and four counts of attempted murder. He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to 2 July.
Allegations against Dube are that on 22 May 2024 at Willsgroove East mine in the Cement Siding area, the suspect together with one Shackey from Sikhobokhobo area in Nkayi and other co-accused persons who are still at large connived to attack Fortune Ncube who was part of gold panners who were panning gold in the mine.
The gang used axes and machetes to strike Ncube multiple times on both legs, hands, and on the head. He bled profusely and died instantly. On the same day, they also approached Mpikelelo Ncube who was also part of the illegal gold panners, and used axes and machetes to stab him multiple times on both legs, hands and the head. He bled and died on the scene.
Furthermore, they proceeded to Alexander Ncube, Amicable Mguni, Always Ncube and Kwanele Nyokeni and assaulted them on the legs, hands, and on the head. They sustained injuries as a result of the attack.
The matter was reported to the police and investigations were carried out leading to the arrest of Dube who was positively identified by witnesses
