Two Darwendale housebreakers jailed

TWO housebreakers who were terrorising residents in and around the Darwendale area have been arrested and jailed by a Chinhoyi Magistrate.
Saimon Mbewe (34) and Lavender Mabhusa (42) of Mbebvi Farm in Darwendale appeared before the Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Court facing charges of unlawful entry.

Mbewe and Mabhusa were sentenced to 24 months imprisonment of which six months were suspended.

A further six months were suspended on condition of restitution. Mbewe had a three-month sentence from a previous sentence that was brought into effect and he will serve an effective 15 months in prison.

According to the State, sometime between July 16 and 20, 2024, the duo broke a padlock using an unknown object at Serena Manyenge’s house.

They then stole an assortment of groceries and household property which they sold the following day.

They were later arrested resulting in some of the stolen property being recovered from the people they had sold them to.

The total value of stolen property was US$3 168 and only property worth US$880 was recovered.
