Two die in cycles clash

A Murehwa man last week died from head injuries he sustained when a bicycle he was riding had a head-on collision with a motorbike on the 74km peg along Murehwa-Madicheche Road near Mutawatawa Business Centre. Mr Archbold Mudzinge (43) of Chidhakwa Village under Chief Chirinda of Maramba District was rushed to Mutawatawa Hospital after the collision, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police spokesperson for Mashonaland East Province Inspector Tendai Mwanza confirmed the accident.
“The accident occurred on Wednesday evening last week near Mutawatawa,” he said.

“Munyaradzi Masango was riding his motorbike heading towards Murehwa and on approaching the 74km peg, he encroached on the lane of oncoming vehicles, thereby colliding head on with Mudzinge who was cycling in the opposite direction.”

Insp Mwanza said as a result of the collision, both men fell on the tarred road and sustained injuries, with Mudzinge sustaining serious head injuries.
“The impact was severe and both men sustained serious injuries,” he said.
“Mudzinge sustained serious head injuries.

“A well-wisher rushed them to Mutawatawa Hospital where Mudzinge was pronounced dead on arrival.”
Mudzinge’s body was taken to Mutawatawa Hospital mortuary for post-mortem, he said.
Masango was admitted, but was discharged later after receiving treatment, Inspector Mwanza said.
Meanwhile, an 18-year-old Mutoko man lost control of his bicycle and fell headlong.

He died on the spot.
The incident occurred on the 17km peg along the Nyadire-Corner Store Road in Mutoko.
Inspector Mwanza confirmed the incident.

“Mr Solomon Kanyongo from Chimurenga Village under Chief Mutoko was cycling his mountain bike heading for Nyadire,” he said.

“On approaching the 17km peg along the Nyadire-Corner Store gravel road, Kanyongo lost control of the bicycle and he fell down on the hard surface and sustained head injuries.

“A well-wisher took him to Chimurenga Clinic where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.”
Insp Mwanza said drivers and cyclists should be attentive to the state of roads all the time to avoid accidents.
