TWO Egyptians were attacked by a mob which accused them of kidnapping children in Ruwa.
Police have, however, cleared the two of any involvement in kidnappings.
Mohamed Sheriff Kamal Mohamed Khalil and Abdelgawad Maher Mouh, both aged 21, who stay in Damofalls Phase 6, denied the kidnapping claims.
They were taken to the police station where they revealed that they were in the business of selling kitchen utensils.
Police searched their Honda Fit vehicle and found boxes containing a 108-piece dinner set, a set of 15 pots and a cutlery set with 110 pieces.
National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, warned people not to take the law into their own hands.
“The two were accused of abducting and kidnapping children. Preliminary investigations have shown that there is no abduction and kidnapping.
“The two have been selling household utensils that included dinner plates, pots, carpets and other items.
“Their business was received with mixed feelings by the community and some teamed up and attacked them,” said Ass-Comm Nyathi.
A Ruwa resident told H-Metro that the two Egyptians were intercepted at Sebassa Park suburb and residents asked them to identify themselves.
However, they sped off.
Some residents followed them to Damofalls Industrial Park where their car got stuck in the mud.
“The two took to their heels and members of the public chased and caught up with them, and started assaulting them until a security guard came to their rescue.”
