Two England players good enough for Brazil

WORLD Cup legend Roberto Carlos believes two England stars are good enough to play for Brazil.

Gareth Southgate’s England are one of the favourites heading into the tournament in Qatar, having reached the semi-finals in Russia back in 2018.

Brazil, meanwhile, boast a particularly devastating selection of forwards that is the cause of envy for many other nations.

And 2002 World Cup winner Carlos believes two Three Lions stars stand out above the rest when looking at who would get into Brazil manager Tite’s starting XI.

The former left-back told The Telegraph: “Alexander-Arnold has to be there because he’s among the best ones. Kane is a good player too.

“You have a good team, not just in terms of names but in terms of players who have trained well and are ready to play at a World Cup – or to play for the Brazilian national team.

“I’d say those two (Kane and Alexander-Arnold), but there are more. There’s a lot of quality in the England team. You have a lot of quality.”

Despite the Brazilian’s plaudits, there has been much debate surrounding whether Southgate will opt to play Alexander-Arnold much, if at all, at the World Cup.

The England boss has shown a clear mistrust when it comes to the Liverpool right-back due to his defensive frailties, having failed to take him to the Euros last year and fielded him just once in 2022.

The defender at club level is regarded as one of the greatest players in his position – a position where Brazil notably lacks.

Selecao have to pick from either 31-year-old Danilo of Juventus or 39-year-old Dani Alves at right-back, with the latter set to become Brazil’s oldest ever World Cup player.

Carlos’ inclusion of Kane also comes as no surprise given he would be displacing Richarlison up-front – his Tottenham teammate who plays second fiddle to the England captain.

While the pair offer very different things, Kane won the Golden Boot in Russia last time out. – Daily Star.
