INMATES are not outcasts and they need to be supported through their rehabilitation process, leaders of two companies, who have pledged themselves to provide a helping hand, have said.

Fulcrum Piggery Services have partnered with Sunrest Funeral Home to help inmates who would have been dumped by their relatives.

The two partners signed a Memorandum of Understanding which will see them helping some of the inmates.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Sunrest Funeral Services CEO, Abel Chazanga, said:

“We are partnering with Fulcrum Piggery Services to offer different services to inmates and prison officers.

“I believe that this partnership today marks a historical transformation of life in our community.

“This partnership will serve the community and transform the lives of community members, including the inmates.

“We will also be working with prison officers and we want to make an impact that is life-changing through training programmes and donations.

“We will be giving befitting send-offs to the grieving inmates.

“We are an active and respected member of the community and, with this partnership with Fulcrum, it will enable both companies to give back to the community by training and educating prisoners and other community members that are interested in this life-changing opportunity.”

Fulcrum Piggery founder, Nicholas Karikoga, who has been imparting skills through workshops to inmates and prison officers, said:

“This is a stepping stone into the corporate world where this will expand to different areas.

“We will be imparting skills as well as bringing relief through the offering of these funeral policies which will help to lighten the burden on these inmates.

“It will also be expanded to prison officers as well.

“We want inmates to be part of this initiative. We will be having some workshops as well.

“We have offered piggery skills to over 400 inmates so far.

“We have been training inmates on breeding and genetics, customised farm, free management, health and disease management, among other skills,” said Karikoga.
