Two men who robbed a Harare couple, allegedly killing the woman and seriously injuring her husband with iron bars and electric shocks after breaking into their home, will spend 12 years each behind bars for the armed robbery and still face trial in the High Court on charges of murder and attempted murder.

Clemence Maminimini (33) and Kindness Mubariri (21), both of Seke, were convicted of armed robbery by Harare regional magistrate Ms Fadzai Mtombeni after a fully contested trial. Their alleged accomplice, Tafadzwa Maminimini, is still at large.

Prosecutor Mr Tungamirai Muganhiri presented overwhelming evidence that led to the robbery convictions.

In passing sentence, Ms Mthombeni said only a custodial term would meet justice and described that the pair was a menace to society.
