SPENCER Bongani Dzitiro (33) and Malvin Mpofu (23), both residents of Bulawayo’s Tshabalala suburb, appeared in court on charges of robbery.
The duo is accused of tricking a man, Edward Muchenjekwa, into believing they were passengers before robbing him of his blue Honda Fit car, ZAR 100, and a Samsung A12 cellphone.
Bulawayo Regional Magistrate, Sibonginkosi Mnkandla, postponed the case to November 28 for judgment.
Prosecuting, Ms Nomthandazo Mafu told the court that on September 3 at around 9pm, Muchenjekwa was driving a Honda Fit from Emganwini to the Central Business District (CBD) when he picked up a male passenger who was going to Cowdray Park.

On the way, he also picked up the two accused at the traffic light-controlled intersection of Siyephambili Drive and Nketa Drive, who stated that they were going to D Square along Luveve Road in Njube.
“Muchenjekwa then drove along Nketa Drive towards D Square, and when he arrived at D Square in Njube, the two accused did not disembark from the vehicle but instead changed their destination and indicated that they now wanted to proceed to the CBD.
“They informed the complainant to first drop off the other passenger at the Cowdray Park turn-off,” said Ms Mafu.
Ms Mafu said Muchenjekwa drove to Luveve, where he dropped off the other passenger at Cowdray Park and was left with the two accused on board as he drove towards Bulawayo CBD.

“When he got to the Siyephambili Drive and Luveve Road intersection, one of the accused, who was seated in the back seat, grabbed the complainant from the back and struck him on the forehead twice using an unknown object. The complainant managed to force himself out of the vehicle while it was in motion, and the accused drove off at high speed along Siyephambili Drive towards Kelvin Industrial Site, Bulawayo,” she said.
The court heard that the two accused later dumped the vehicle at an isolated place.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to the arrest of the accused.
