ZIMBABWE this afternoon received two million Sinovac vaccines for Covid-19 procured from China as the country intensifies its sustained efforts to contain the pandemic as cases have been on the rise.

This the biggest single consignment the country has taken delivery of since the commencement of the mass vaccination programme that has earned international recognition.

With Covid-19 cases going up, President Mnangagwa is on record saying embracing the vaccine exercise is the safest and best way out of the national lockdown restrictions.

As the country vigorously pursues plans to vaccinate at least 10 million people in order to reach herd immunity, the latest batch of vaccines means Zimbabwe now has more than four million doses which will go a long way in helping achieve that end.

Finance and Economic Development Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube, Health and Child Care Deputy Minister, Dr John Mangwiro and other senior government officials received the vaccines at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.
