TWO mine workers from Mangwe District died yesterday while five others were injured when a truck they were travelling in veered off the road and overturned.Vusumuzi Ndlovu, 34, of Zvishavane died on the spot while Colleen Tshuma, 47, of Filabusi died on his way to hospital.
The T-35 truck was heading for Mphoengs from Bulawayo when it overturned at the 25km peg along Plumtree-Izimnyama Road at about 8AM.
Witnesses said Ndlovu, who was driving the truck, jumped off the vehicle as it swerved off the road, knocked his head against a rock besides the road and died on the spot.
It is understood that Tshuma was thrown out of the vehicle when it overturned and sustained head injuries. Other injured miners were rushed to Plumtree District Hospital for treatment.
Witnesses said the truck was loaded with mining equipment and had seven people on board including the driver. They said the driver lost control when he failed to negotiate a curve along Izimnyama Road resulting in the vehicle swerving.
Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson Inspector Philisani Ndebele could neither confirm nor deny the accident saying he was yet to receive the report.
