Two months living with raw sewage flowing in house

FOR a family which stays in the Zengeza 4 New Stands neighbourhood in Chitungwiza, it has been a nighmarish two months as they live with raw sewage flowing in their house.

The Guwuriro family claims Chitungwiza Town Council employees are responsible as they damaged a pipe, close to their house, which triggered the crisis.

Their efforts, they claim, for the problem to be fixed has not borne any fruits with the Council employees not interested to come and help them.

The family fears cholera could hit them very hard.

Dylan Guwuriro said:

“This is what we have to live with every day, this raw sewer flowing from our homes. To make it worse, there is no water,” Dylan said.

“We have been reporting to the Council but nothing is being done, and now we live in constant fear when it comes to issues related to our health.

“We called the Council, but they never attended to the matter.

“We want the municipality to come and address this issue because they are the ones who caused this problem to begin with.

“They came to our house to fix another sewer, which had burst at another house, and in the process damaged our sewer.

“They have been refusing to fix it ever since.

“One of the workers is so rude over the phone and tells us kuti mukarwara munoenda kuchipatara monorapwa.”

No comment could be obtained from the Citungwiza Town Council.
