TWO people from Sadza District, in Mashonaland East, were arraigned before Wedza Resident Magistrate Tariro Chamisa recently and were convicted of unlawful dealing in dangerous drugs.
Paston Mjiba (39), who is a barber, was using his shop to push drugs such as methylenedioxyphenyl methamphine/ guka-mutoriro, while Letwin Alice Mungoni (34) of Sadza District Hospital staff quarters was operating from Sadza District Hospital.
They both pleaded guilty and Mjiba was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, of which three months were suspended for five years, leaving him with nine months effective.
Mungoni was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, of which six months were suspended for five years.
Public prosecutor, Mr Vimbainashe John Mukondo, revealed that on the 15th of November at around 10:30 am, the Sadza ZRP received a tip-off from an informer that the two were dealing with dangerous drugs.
Acting on the tip off, police officers attended the scene and recovered three sachets of guka/mutoriro, 200 small empty plastics used as guka/mutoriro packages, a small digital pocket scale for weighing guka/mutoriro, 15 Sun brand cigarette lighters and two energy saver bulb apparatus used for consumption of guka/mutoriro, which were hidden in one of the accused person’s houses.
The accused were arrested for dealing in dangerous drugs and were escorted to ZRP Sadza police station.
