TWO children from Matobo District aged three and six fell into a two metre deep well and drowned while they were playing.
Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson Inspector Philani Ndebele confirmed the incident which occurred on Saturday around 5PM in Natisa area under Chief Masuku.
He said the two siblings Gift (3) and Sigcwalisile (6) Ncube were playing at a well which is about 50 metres from their homestead when the boy fell in.
Insp Ndebele said Sigcwalisile tried to save her younger brother but also fell in.
“I can confirm that there is an incident of two children aged three and six who drowned in a well. They were playing close to a well which is near their homestead.
“Gift took a container and went to collect water from the well. He fell inside and his sister tried to rescue him but she also fell inside,” he said.
He said the kids’ uncle, Mr Mehluli Ncube, found the bodies of the two children in the well and reported the matter to the police.
