The two men were driving around Durban during the night when they were attacked.
One of the men from Glen View was stabbed more than eight times while his uncle from Chitungwiza was shot dead during the robbery while the fought back.
The uncle died a few hours at a hospital in Durban from the wounds he sustained after he was shot.
According to friends, the uncle managed to contact some of his relatives in the country and informed them what had happened before he died.
The criminals got away with a vehicle the two had bought at a car dealer in Durban.
Their bodies arrived in the country on Friday night before they were taken to Mt Darwin and Murewa for burial yesterday.
Zimbabwe’s counsel general in South Africa Mr Godfrey Magwenzi said he was not aware of the case and was still checking the details by yesterday.
“I have not yet picked up the details of the case and will try to check with the police here tomorrow (Monday),” he said.
This is not the first time that such incidents have occurred in that country.
A body of a Zimbabwean based in South Africa, Jimson Chinorumba (31) was found in Cape Town on March 9 this year.
