South African global music sensation Tyla has added yet another record-breaking achievement to her growing list of accolades after becoming the first artist in history to spend a cumulative 100 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s US Afrobeats Songs chart.
The historic milestone was confirmed by music analytics platform Chart Data, which announced on X that Tyla had officially reached the landmark, making her the first artist ever to achieve the feat.
The achievement comes after her latest single, “Is It Love”, climbed to the summit of the Billboard US Afrobeats Songs chart, adding to an already dominant run that includes chart-topping hits such as “Water”, “Push 2 Start” and “Chanel.”
Her breakout smash “Water” first introduced her to the global stage, spending a record-breaking 55 weeks at No. 1 on the chart before being succeeded by other chart-toppers from the Johannesburg-born star.
Her continued success has cemented her status as one of Africa’s biggest musical exports.
The latest milestone comes just weeks before the release of Tyla’s highly anticipated second studio album, “A*Pop,” which is expected to arrive later this month. The project will feature both “Chanel” and “Is It Love”, two singles that have already enjoyed major commercial success.
Since bursting onto the international scene, Tyla has continued to rewrite the record books. She became the youngest African artist to win a Grammy Award and has consistently broken barriers for South African artists on global charts.
Fans quickly flooded social media with congratulatory messages following the announcement, celebrating another historic moment for the singer whose blend of amapiano, pop and R&B continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.
With 100 cumulative weeks at No. 1, Tyla has once again demonstrated that her global success is far more than a viral moment; it’s sustained chart dominance that is redefining African music’s place on the international stage – IOL
