THE Zimbabwe men’s Under-19 cricket team drew their first two-day practice match on their tour to Omtex ICWC Cricket Institute in Mumbai, India.
Opting to bat first, Zimbabwe were bowled out for 206 in the first innings and the hosts went on to score 312 in their first innings as well. The match ended with Zimbabwe batting their second innings with 102-2 at day’s end. In the first innings, Nathaniel Hlabangana and Villan Changa top scored for Zimbabwe, both falling one run off a half century on 49 runs. Ryan Kamwemba fell in the 40s as well, scoring 46 runs to finish the innings as the team’s third leading run scorer.
Munashe Chimusoro and Dhaneel Goven were the only other batters to have recorded double figures for Zimbabwe in the first innings as the others could not go past 10 runs. Omkar Mogal took four wickets for the hosts while their captain, Aayush Vaity and Kabir Minawala had two each to round up Zimbabwe’s first innings. Omtex’s response was led by wicketkeeper, Prateek Yadav who scored an unbeaten 200 runs while the second leading run scorer in the team, Vaity put out 39 runs on the board to guide their team to a first innings total of 312.
Zimbabwe captain, Matthew Schonken picked up three wickets while Mashford Shungu and Shaun Dzikatira took two each. In the second innings, Hlabangana scored 32 runs and Chimusoro retired hurt on 27 runs and Kamwemba chipped in with 25 runs as Zimbabwe salvaged a draw from the match.
Zimbabwe, who have automatic qualification to the next edition of the 2024 International Cricket Council (ICC) Under-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka, travelled to India with a squad of 20 players who will partake in the tour.
