THE United Arab Emirates is today celebrating the Emirati Children’s Day as it does on March 15 every year.
This year, the state celebration is being held under the slogan of the right to protection and includes events to celebrate it at the level of all seven emirates of the UAE.
In an interview, Dr Jassim al Qasimi, UAE Ambassador to Zimbabwe, explained that the UAE decided to celebrate this day to spread awareness of the need to care for children and their rights as a result of the great importance that the UAE attaches to children.
Children hold a significant place in State decisions in the UAE.
The Ambassador described Emirati Children’s Day as a national day when the country celebrates its children, and takes the opportunity to highlight the achievements that support children, give children their desired rights, realise the country’s efforts to ensure a happy life and a joyful childhood free from difficulties and obstacles.
President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, launched the National Strategy for Childhood and Motherhood in 2017 to promote the rights and development of children especially those with disabilities.
The strategy aims to encourage all segments of society to participate in this day, which coincides with the UAE’s signing of the Children’s Charter Global.
Regarding the types of celebrations on this day, the Ambassador added that the UAE takes inspiration from the activities that take place on International Children’s Day.
As the UAE celebrates Emirati Children’s Day, activities are organised while ensuring children’s participation in all of them.
These activities are implemented throughout the UAE in schools, parks, beaches, and commercial centres spread throughout the country. The goal is to create a festive and inclusive environment where children can actively engage in celebrations and enjoy their special day.
