admina forged supplier’s copy, the quartet allegedly received building materials worth US$21 740 from UBM on ‘behalf of the Ministry’. Solomon Konde (42), Panganai Kambarame (45) and Edmond Mutambara (40), have since appeared before a Harare magistrate Ms Anita Tshuma charged with fraud. One of the suspects, Clayton Masimbe is still at large. They were not asked to plead to the charge and were remanded out of custody to April 2 on US$200 bail each.
Prosecutor Mr David Magwegwe alleged that on February 1 this year, the quartet came to know that UBM was selling building material to Government departments on credit and hatched a plan to defraud the firm Konde, the court heard, manufactured a supplier’s copy in the name of the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare purporting that the ministry was in need of building material and gave it to Masimbe.
Masimbe then went to UBM and posed as an employee with the Ministry and produced the copy. Due to the fake document he presented, Masimbe was given building material on behalf of the Ministry.
The goods were loaded into two vehicles they had hired and later offloaded in a bushy area in Chadcombe. Kambarame and Mutambara hired another vehicle and took the goods to Mbare Musika where they sold them. They were later arrested on March 9 following a tip-off.
