Mwarira was not formally charged when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Donald Ndirowei who remanded him in custody to June 18 this month on US$50 bail.
The State alleges that on June 10, Detective Sergeant Munouya, Detective Constable Walaza and Detective Constable Mavhene from Harare Minerals Unit who were on patrol received information that Mwarira, a UFIC pastor in Kambuzuma, was dealing in gold at FM Jewellery.
It is the State’s case that upon arrival at the shop situated at the corner of Kwame Nkrumah and Kaguvi streets, the policemen identified themselves as police officers and asked to search Mwarira who complied and the examination was done while Detective Sergeant Munouya watched.
Allegations are that Det Const Mavhene recovered a suspected gold button wrapped in a 50 billion Zimbabwe bearer’s cheque note, stashed in a small zipped compartment in Mwarira’s wallet.
When asked to produce authorisation to deal or be in possession of gold, the UFIC pastor failed to do so resulting in his instant arrest.
