Uhuru Day preps at an advanced level

MATABELELAND North Province is set to deliver a landmark celebration for this year’s Independence Day, with preparations now 90 percent complete. This marks the province’s first-ever hosting of the event outside the traditional venue of Somhlolo Stadium in Lupane.

The celebrations will take place at Tsholotsho Centre Open Ground in Tsholotsho District, under the theme: “Zim@45: Devolve and Develop Together Towards Vision 2030.”

The decision to rotate the venue of provincial celebrations reflects the Second Republic’s policy of devolution, aimed at bringing governance closer to the people and fostering inclusive national unity across all regions.

The theme encapsulates the Government’s commitment to promoting grassroots development and advancing towards Vision 2030, Zimbabwe’s goal of achieving an upper-middle-income economy.

Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Richard Moyo, expressed confidence in the province’s readiness, highlighting significant strides in infrastructure upgrades, logistical arrangements and private sector partnerships.

“Our teams have worked tirelessly to ensure all critical aspects are in place. Road rehabilitation is at an advanced stage, and we have secured 10 buses to transport people from various districts within the province. We have received generous support from local companies donating mobile toilets. We are confident of delivering a seamless and memorable event,” he said.

This year’s celebrations in Tsholotsho are expected to draw thousands of visitors, with local authorities ensuring smooth transportation and accessibility. Roads leading to the venue have been improved to ease traffic flow and make the location more accessible.

The province has mobilised buses to transport people from remote districts such as Lupane, Nkayi and Binga, ensuring that even those in distant communities will be able to participate in this historic event.

“As emphasised by President Mnangagwa, no one should be left behind in this historic celebration. It will be the first time we host the event in Tsholotsho, and it will be an exciting and inclusive experience for all,” said Minister Moyo.

Minister Moyo praised the collaborative effort, describing it as a demonstration of community unity that will help cater for the needs of attendees and ensure a comfortable, enjoyable experience for everyone.

In line with the importance of security at national events, Minister Moyo reassured the public that adequate measures are in place to ensure safety at the venue. He urged citizens to turn out in large numbers to celebrate Zimbabwe’s cultural heritage, national pride and 45 years of independence.

“The preparations are well on track, and we are committed to delivering a seamless and memorable celebration that showcases our dedication to national unity and development,” he said. —nyeve14
