Trust Khosa recently in Mt Darwin
THE usually sleepy town of Mt Darwin awoke from its slumber when it hosted this year’s Independence Musical Concert at Pfura Stadium.
Thousands of fans were treated to 24 hours of non-stop music, a rarity in the town nestled in the heart of Mashonaland Central Province.
Most of the artistes dished out all their artistic verve as they celebrated the country’s 43rd independence.
Suluman Chimbetu was at his usual best, as he put on a polished act.
He made his job easier by playing sing-along tracks, sending the big crowd into delirium.
Simon Mutambi, who travelled all the way from Beatrice, had a good day on stage along with Paradzai Mesi.
Mesi, who leads a new-look Njerama Boys, proved that class is permanent while form is temporary.
Like Suluman, he simply stuck to sing along tracks, which made him the crowd’s favourite.
Being a national event, the hosts also came up with a balanced line-up of musicians.
Zim dancehall fans were given a treat as Jah Signal exploded on the stage.
Exuding confidence, Jah Signal, who played backtracks, was accompanied by energetic dancers.
Gospel lovers were spoilt for choice as Mutare-based queen of worship and praise, Dorcas Moyo, also delivered a polished act.
Gospel diva, Agatha Murudzwa, complemented Dorcas well.
Agatha, who recently launched her 15th album titled “Press On Volume 1” and celebrated 20 years in the game, showed that she is getting better with age.
Andy Muridzo also had a memorable show.
He warned young people to desist from taking drugs.
He vowed to use his influence in the national battle against the drug menace.
Selmor Mtukudzi, who hails from Mashonaland Central Province, had an opportunity to perform before her home folk.
Jiti singer, Chief Hwenje, left the fans clamouring for more.
He paraded energetic performers who thrilled the fans.
Not to be outdone was Binga musician Bio Mudimba who proved he was not a one-hit wonder.
Famed for the track Kujata Jata, which propelled him to prominence two years ago, the skinny singer was clearly not out just to add the numbers at the event.
The emcees of the day, Kanyemba Bonzo and Phillip Makazhu, were on point with their show.
