AGAINST all Odds Still Standing Charity (AOS), a UK-based organisation has donated bicycles, clothes and food hampers to 23 young men s drawn from the Harvest House International Church in Bulawayo.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at Harvest House International Church recently, AOS chief executive officer Mrs Fikelephi Jackson said through the donation they hope to empower the boy child so that they don’t end up resorting to drug and substance abuse.
“Every year, we come to Zimbabwe to donate to a number of beneficiaries. In the past, we concentrated on girl children and women who are victims of gender-based violence,” she said.
“This year, we have shifted the attention towards the boy child. They are also affected by what is happening behind the doors such that they end up being on drugs, suicidal, and engaging in gangsterism among other social ills.”
Mrs Jackson said they donated 23 bicycles to beneficiaries aged between 19 and 29 years.
“We have made sure that the boy child, not only has a uniform, but the boy child will have the resources that he needs to be able to deliver. Through this initiative, the beneficiaries will be able to create employment for themselves by utilising those bicycles,” she said.
“It is important that as a nation we have the spirit of Ubuntu. We should come together and assist the boy child that we are seeing in the street where they are into drug and substance abuse,
“We need to change lives, which is why we gave more than 20 boys bicycles which they can use for errands and get money. As an organisation, we believe in the principle that a boy child should not engage in illegal things.
