UK Minister for Africa meets President Mnangagwa

 

In a significant diplomatic gesture, Lord Collins of Highbury, the UK Minister for Africa, is set to meet with President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House in Harare today.

This courtesy call underscores the strengthening ties between Zimbabwe and the United Kingdom, which have seen notable improvements in recent years.

As both nations explore opportunities for collaboration, this meeting marks a significant step toward enhancing bilateral relations and fostering mutual understanding.

The discussions are expected to focus on key areas such as economic cooperation and trade, reflecting a shared interest in promoting development and prosperity in Africa.

UK follows EU’s lead in lifting sanctions

The UK recently announced the removal of measures targeting Sports Minister Retired General Anselem Sanyatwe, former CIO Director-General Isaac Moyo, Minister of State for Midlands Province Owen Ncube, and the Zimbabwe Defence Industries (ZDI).

In its statement, the UK noted that these “revocations align with a similar move from the European Union in February 2025,” when the EU delisted its last remaining sanction on ZDI.

The closed door meeting has ended.

In the subsequent interview, Lord Collins said they held fruitful deliberations with President Mnangagwa.

He added that the UK is very much committed to the continued improvement of relations based on mutual respect.
