UK strengthens position as key tourism source market for Zimbabwe

THE United Kingdom continues to consolidate its position as one of Zimbabwe’s key outbound tourism source markets, ranking second in 2025 after recording a significant 52 percent increase in tourist arrivals.

The growth shows the UK’s strategic importance in driving tourism expansion, fostering international diplomacy and enhancing the country’s global image in line with the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).

In line with Zimbabwe’s Engagement and Re-engagement Policy, the United Kingdom Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Pete Vowles, recently paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Barbara Rwodzi, in Harare.

“The United Kingdom continues to strengthen its position as a key outbound source market for Zimbabwe, ranking second in 2025 with a notable 52% increase in Tourist Arrivals, underscoring its strategic role in Tourism growth, International Diplomacy and Image Building under National Development Strategy 2,” the Ministry said.

During the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector.

“Discussions focused on enhancing Tourism Cooperation, Increasing Arrivals and unlocking Sustainable Tourism growth opportunities, with priority areas including Joint Marketing, Hospitality Investment, Skills Development, Community-Based Tourism and improving Air Connectivity, including prospects for a direct Harare–London.

“The Ambassador commended the strong bilateral relations, while the Minister acknowledged his efforts in promoting Zimbabwean Gastronomy globally, advancing a shared vision for a Sustainable and Inclusive Tourism sector.”

The engagement is expected to further unlock opportunities for increased visitor inflows, investment and knowledge exchange, positioning Zimbabwe as a competitive and attractive destination on the global tourism map.
