UK suspends aid to Malawi

uk aidCape Town – Britain has reportedly frozen its aid support to Malawi in a move likely to have a catastrophic effect on the country’s ability to provide basic services, a report says.
According to Telegraph, the southern African country’s biggest donor suspended its direct aid to Malawi over a multi-million pound corruption scandal which has seen ministers from President Joyce Banda’s administration implicated.

The development comes at a time when the European Union and Norway have also withdrawn their support for the country.
The Department for International Development’s head in Malawi Sarah Sanyahumbi said the scandal showed “serious weaknesses in the government’s financial systems”.  — News24
