Moreblessing Ncube
A BULAWAYO cross border transporter has been fined after duping a police officer who trusted him to buy a refrigerator on her behalf.
Mlungisi Nkala (36) of Pumula South appeared before Magistrate Maxwell Ncube charged with fraud. He was fined of US$300.
Prosecutor Mehluli Ndlovu told the court that on 22 February at the Bulawayo city centre, Nkala received R3 500 from police officer Melody Mutemeri. The money was meant for him to buy a deep freezer from South Africa.
Nkala pocketed the money but failed to deliver the refrigerator. After realising she had been conned, Mutemeri reported the matter, leading to Nkala’s arrest.
The total value of the property lost is R3 500 and nothing was recovered.
