THE United Movement for Democratic Change shut the door on MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai yesterday, saying they will not work with him after labelling him a monster that was not progressive.Speaking at the UMDC party’s launch at Stanley Square in Bulawayo, a coalition of MDC led by Professor Welshman Ncube and the MDC Renewal Team yesterday, party leaders said they were tired of Tsvangirai’s leadership and his violent tendencies.
The party would operate as UMDC and officials from both camps would jointly chair the party’s organs until October when they hold their inaugural congress.
Under the caretaker leadership structure, Prof Ncube and Sekai Holland would be co-president while Tendai Biti and Moses Mzila-Ndlovu would be co-secretary general.
Samuel Sipepa-Nkomo and Goodrich Chimbaira would work together as the co-national chairmen.
Addressing party supporters, Sipepa-Nkomo said bootlicking had led to Tsvangirai’s arrogance and uncouth behaviour.
“Tsvangirai started off okay but we moulded him into a monster unknowingly, hero worshipping a man instead of worshipping God. These incoming leaders, we’re not going to make monsters out of them but servant leaders, leaders that fear God,” said Sipepa-Nkomo.
He said the party would court other “progressive” forces to form a “strong” opposition.
“This is a start, we’re talking to other progressive forces such as Zapu and Mavambo/Dawn/Kusile but we’re not going to talk to Tsvangirai, where we came from, because he’s not a progressive force,” said Sipepa-Nkomo.
“We’re going to have substantive leadership when we have our congress. It doesn’t matter whether you’re green or orange. We must bury green and orange, because if we lean on either side, we’ll never be united.”
Sipepa-Nkomo emphasised that theirs was not a coalition but a party.
“We aren’t a coalition, we’re a political party as from today. We’re working as one party. We’ll be a coalition when we join other parties such as Zapu,” said Sipepa-Nkomo.
