Umpteenth time fire ‘attack’ leaves homestead deserted

A SURPRISE mystery fire left a Plumtree man in shock after he survived but most of his property was razed.
Gideon Gibson Ndlovu escaped death as the inferno caught him by surprise.

He scampered to safety choking on black ominous smoke while other family members and villagers hurried in a bid to extinguish the fire.

Villagers who witnessed the blaze were quick to point out that it was not the first time the house had caught fire, insinuating they suspected acts of witchcraft.

“This is not the first time this house has caught fire. We understand the first time Ndlovu claimed lightning caused the fire but how come it only strikes this particular house when there are many houses in the compound,” a villager said speaking on condition of anonymity.

Ndlovu has since deserted the house which he believes is haunted because every time he tries to stay in it, a fire starts and most furniture gets burnt.

“After the death of one of our relatives I moved to this house but I can no longer stay here because fire has started on three different occasions. What is shocking is that the mysterious fire started soon after I moved into the house.

“At first we thought it was lightning since the fire started after a heard thunderbolt. But now this is the third time and we really can’t give proper explanations as to what could be the cause of the fire. Now we are living in fear because we think the house is haunted.

”After seeking help from prophets we have decided that no one should stay there,” said a troubled Ndlovu.
He is still dealing with the after effects of the fire.

“The fire was so difficult to put out and while doing so I inhaled some smoke. Now I am constantly coughing and this has affected my health,” he said.
