The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meeting has begun, with the Secretary-General Antonio Guterres lamenting the current global instability that threatens to overwhelm the world.
He said the world of inequality, impunity, and uncertainty is not sustainable.
“The current state of the world is unsustainable but the problems are resolvable,” he said.
He said the wars in Gaza, Sudan and elsewhere threaten to bring the world to its knees, compounded by challenges such as climate change and an outdated international financial architecture.
Mr Guterres bemoned the effects of climate change which he described as “man-made” and not natural as often stated.
“Climate crisis and Artificial Intelligence are critical challenges that must be resolved.
“Artificial Intelligence could lead to artificial decisions across all systems of the world,” he said.
Mr Guterres also said the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund had failed to keep up with economic progress.
