United Nations Children’s Fund country representative Ms Etona Ekole today paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the National Assembly, Advocate Jacob Mudenda at his office at the New Parliament Building in Mt Hampden.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Ms Ekole said they discussed various issues concerning education and the welfare of children.

“We had some interesting discussions on UNICEF’s support to Zimbabwe but more importantly it was great to hear the vision of the Speaker, especially on education,” she said.

“We talked about the importance of education generally and the education crises in Africa. We talked about the need for us to pay more attention and commit our resources to basic education.”
