Unathi Idols SA slot uncertain

IDOLS South Africa contestants’ nerves have calmed – but now, it’s the judges’ turn to be nervous! With dates for 2016 auditions set, one of the show’s judges is said to be holding her breath over her contract. The only female on the panel, Unathi Msengana’s future seems uncertain considering that the other judges have been given their contracts for the next season.

Sunday Sun sources claim Unathi is the only Idols judge who is yet to be offered a new contract. A source close to the situation said Somizi Mhlongo had been confirmed as one of the judges for next year, while Unathi’s fate hangs by a thread.

The sources said Unathi started worrying about her future after learning that Somizi has been confirmed. “All I can say is she was worried that Somizi has already been booked for next year. Unathi was alerted by Somizi after he was called to sign his contract,” said the source.

The source further claimed M-Net was happy with Somizi’s impact on the show as he boosted the show’s ratings. “After turning the show around, I doubt Somizi will come cheap and there’re a few demands – you know Somizi is a diva,” said the source.

The source said it remains unclear whether Unathi will return to the show or not. “Let’s wait and see, maybe she’s coming back, it’s still early,” the source said. Public Relations intern: Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net, Zama Mazibuko, said she can’t comment on the issue as yet.

“Can you guys wait? We’re going to make an announcement soon,” she said. Unathi could not be reached for comment as her phone was constantly off at the time of going to print. — DailySun
