Underdogs crash into last 16 as BPPA Cup heats up

THE Bulawayo Provincial Pool Association (BPPA) Cup has reached its decisive stage, with just 16 clubs remaining

from an initial pool of 74, all now vying for the coveted title.
The month-long knockout competition, which features teams from the Premier, Elite and District leagues in Reigate, Mzilikazi and the CBD, has delivered its fair share of surprises. Among the standout stories are the unfancied Elangeni and Nketa Bullets, who have battled their way into the last 16.

BPPA publicity and marketing officer Osbornewells Dziko expressed satisfaction with how the tournament has unfolded.

“We are very proud that the tournament has progressed smoothly. 16 teams out of 74 remain, and it’s encouraging to see underdogs like Elangeni and Nketa Bullets making it through to the next stage. It’s a month-long competition, and the eventual champions will be crowned in November,” said Dziko.

The last 16 will feature: Bullets, Delta, Dragons, Dropmark, Elangeni, Entumbane, Funda, Lobengula Sharks, Mazai Legends, Mnethi, Perfect Liquor, Premier Elite, Elite, Renegades and Sibamba.

Meanwhile, BPPA’s influence continues to extend beyond Bulawayo. Dziko, along with Zimbabwe Pool Association (Zipa) Vice President Donald Wadawu, has been invited to attend the Clubs Pool Tournament at Binga Centre later this month. The event will run alongside the Kasambabezi Marathon as part of the BaTonga Cultural Festival.

Sport and Recreation Commission officer Ronald Siyamwamwata, confirmed the invitation in an official letter.

“We formally invite Donald Wadawu, Vice President of Zipa, and Osbornewells Dziko, BPPA Publicity and Marketing Officer, to attend the clubs pool tournament scheduled for 26 September at Binga Centre,” wrote Siyamwamwata.

He noted that their presence would build on the support they provided in April during the inaugural Gizaman Pool Tournament in Simatelele.

“This event coincides with the Binga Kasambabezi Marathon, which is part of the BaTonga Cultural Festival. We believe that the presence of Wadawu and Dziko would add immense value to our event and offer an excellent opportunity to learn from their expertise. Their participation would undoubtedly enhance the profile of our event and contribute to the growth of pool as a sport in our district.”
