Judges 15:4-5
And Samson went and caught 300 foxes, and took firebrands, and turned tail to tail, and put a firebrand in the midst between two tails. 5 And when he had set the brands on fire, he let them go into the standing corn of the Philistines and burnt up both the shocks, and also the standing corn, with the vineyards and olives.
The verse above talks about the extraordinary strength of Samson and his ability to attain, through his strength, what a normal person can never attain, no matter what the circumstance, without the aid of machinery and manpower.
Samson represents many people that you have probably met or heard of, people who can do something in a way that seems supernatural.
It may be a preacher you know of, who preaches with deep revelation that always leaves you in awe, a businessman who excels in every venture, even where others fail, a musician who, when he sings or ministers in the church, demons begin to manifest and many are healed. The list goes on and on. In this series, I will talk about that secret which causes one to be lifted from being good, to being incredibly good, from ordinary to extraordinary. That secret is the Anointing of God.
The anointing is the power of the Holy Spirit upon a person or the supernatural ability of God that comes upon a person and enables them to do things that they are not capable of doing with their own strength. Everyone has natural power but lacks ‘super’ power. We have natural talents which God has given us but when the power of the Holy Spirit comes upon our natural, we become ‘supernatural’. This is what we then refer to as being anointed. One no longer does things with their own ability but God’s ability, which is the supernatural ability.
The anointing can also be referred to as the smearing or the rubbing of divine power on someone’s talent, gift or ability so that the power of God works within them. As a result, whatever you touch, you touch with super power.
For instance, when one is an anointed preacher, it means they do not preach like everybody else but they surpass the ordinary. When anointed men and women preach, people can feel their hair standing, their blood pumping, their hearts are provoked and they find that they are forced to stop what they are doing and listen to them. This is because the message is preached with authority.
At times when a Man of God is preaching, you feel like standing, kicking the air or as if something is entering your body. That is the anointing of God. When a preacher is not anointed you feel drowsy or dryness in the church because they are just opening the Bible and preaching with their own ability.
