ORGANISERS of the Pogues Zim Hip Hop Awards (ZHHA) have announced that this year’s awards ceremony will be held in the City of Kings and Queens.
Billed for December 11, the awards will be taking place in the city for the second time following 2017’s ceremony.
The award’s director Aldrian “Beefy” Harrison who was in the city for the Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards this past weekend said preparations for the event are well underway.
“On the 11th of December, we’ll be in Bulawayo for the awards. Preparations are going well and we’re raring to go,” Beefy said.
He said the winners will receive a plaque, a representation of the highest achievement in Zimbabwean hip-hop.
“Having come this far, the awards will continue to celebrate the 11th year of hip-hop industry achievements in glitz and glamour despite the challenges of Covid-19,” he said.
Artistes in the genre started submitting entries last month with submissions having closed last week. The adjudication process began on November 2 and ends tomorrow with the announcement of nominees set to be done on Friday.
The categories are Best Male, Best Female, Best Collaboration, Best Hip-Hop Group, Best Producer, Best Newcomer, Best Brand Supporting Local Hip-Hop, Best Album, Best Promoter, Best Diaspora, Best Radio DJ, Best Club DJ, Best Gospel, Best Dance Act, Best Underground, Best Alternative, Best Online Media, Best Journalist, Song of the
Year, Video of the Year and Video Director of The Year, Best Hip-Hop Hustle, Best Hip-Hop Verse (Sweet 16 award), Hip-Hop Personality of The Year and People’s choice.
Last year’s awards showcase was held at the Rainbow Towers in Harare with Bulawayo rapper, Asaph leading the pack of the winners with top honours in four categories, Best Collaboration, Best Video, Best Hip Hop Verse and Hip Hop Personality. The musician was closely followed by ‘Ndaremerwa’ hit-maker Holy Ten and R Peels who scooped three and two awards each, respectively. — @eMKlass_49
