can they know that He is the one speaking?
This is a billion-dollar question that the body of Christ should attempt to answer without any external help. Today, contemporary Christians have the Holy Bible the inspired Word of God, to read, study, and mediate on.
In my life when I first opened a bank account, I observed that bank employees are trained to detect counterfeits by studying genuine money very carefully that it will be easy to discover fake currency. Similarly, Christians should be familiar with God’s voice that when He speaks to us Christians or lead us, it will be clear that it is God speaking.
Second, to hear God’s voice we must recognise it. Jesus said, “My sheep listen to my voice, I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27). Those who hear God’s voice are those who belong to Him. If we are to recognise God’s voice, we must belong to him. God speaks primarily through his word, by the Holy Spirit to our consciences, through circumstances, and through His Prophets. By applying what we hear to the truth of Scripture, we can learn to recognise his voice.
Matthew 4:4 reveals that, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God (KJV). Man’s wholeness can only be achieved when he feeds on both bread and his word. The Collins English Dictionary defined “proceed” as to advance or carry on, especially after stopping.
From the scripture, we can see that God spoke yesterday today and will still speak tomorrow.
Why does God speak? Some would wonder! He speaks for humanity’s survival. God’s word is a lamp to humanity’s feet. If God chooses to be quiet for a second then humanity stumbles or gropes in the dark concerning issues of life. From the book of John 10:27, this scripture demonstrates that without the voice of Jesus, humanity cannot follow him. Today, Jesus still speaks through the word and his Prophets. It is Jesus’ prerogative to choose whomsoever he chooses to be his mouthpiece. Jesus does not have a board of directors he consults for the divine appointments he makes to build the Kingdom of God.
In Jeremiah 3:15, God said, And I will give you pastors according to my heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding. The pastor shepherds, the evangelist invites sinners to Christ, the apostle plants churches and the prophet speaks the revealed oracles of God. I now have a good handle of how God still speaks to people today which I have established in this article that first, God speaks to us through his word (2 Timothy 3:16-17, Isaiah 55:11).
In my spiritual life, I have realised that God is not confined to a single manner of communicating.
The entire Bible is replete of scriptures that show God speaking through his Prophets. The common thread in all the prophets is the phrase, “Thus says the Lord . . . ” He speaks through his servants the Prophets, even today in Zimbabwe. One of them is Prophet Makandiwa. What I would want to emphasise is the fact that it is less important how God speaks to us than what we do with what he says. God speaks most clearly to us in this day through his word and servants the prophets. The more we learn it, the more ready we will be to recognise his voice when he speaks, and the more likely we are to obey what we hear.
The fact that one does not hear does not mean that God is not speaking. Blessed be a nation that has a voice of God like Zimbabwe. Among other nations we are one of those countries which are currently experiencing God blessing of this dimension.
In my church United Family Interdenominational Church (UFIC), God is speaking to us and many other churches as he did in Biblical times.
We are blessed to hear the voice of God through Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa. It is man’s responsibility to hear God’s voice and live by it. 1 Thessalonians 5:20 urged contemporary believers of Jesus Christ not to despise prophecy for this will lead to the quenching of the Spirit of God.
A Prophet is God’s very own voice. Ignoring a Prophet is ignoring God Himself. Prophets of God are prophets not because we love them, support them or hate them, they are just prophets because God has ordained them that way.
It’s just like the sun or moon, one cannot change them because God created them that way. Hosea 12:13 says, by a prophet the Lord brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved. Blessed be Hosea who understood that reality.
Israel was not delivered by conducting all night prayers, conferences, church doctrines and so forth, but by a prophet. Many questions we ask today is why a prophet?
A prophet has a special hearing and seeing ability that comes as a gift endowed on him to take information directly from God and transmit it to its intended audiences. It is high time children of God took advantage of the gifts God gave to the body of Christ.
Thank God for Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa of UFIC church and others for rekindling and spearheading the ministry of prophet in Zimbabwe and the world at large.
