MPILO Hospital has said communities should complement government’s efforts in addressing some of its challenges as it is far from achieving its recovery plans.The hospital’s Chief Executive Officer Dr Lawrence Mantiziba said the government has embarked on revival strategies for the public sector, but it is not enough, hence the need for the involvement of other partners.
Dr Mantiziba said this yesterday at a function held in Cowdray Park where Unilever through its OMO brand was donated 500 bedsheets, colouring books, crayons and OMO washing powder to Mpilo Hospital Children’s ward.
“Amidst all these challenges, the government has embarked on a recovery strategy for the public sector, which will see improvement in infrastructure, equipment and services. But we are far from achieving what we have set out to do,” said Mantiziba.
“The current state of Mpilo Hospital is no secret to anyone today. We are all aware of the great need that the sector has for refurbishment of infrastructure, new equipment, medical supplies and a lot of other things that would make the hospitals offer better services to the nation.”
He described the help rendered to the Children’s Ward, which has 214 beds, as a huge investment into the future of children.
Unilever’s Marketing Director Juliet Ziswa said her company hopes that the donation would ensure that children would be comfortable while in hospital.
“This donation to Mpilo Hospital is a way of saying that we are standing with you. This is our token or our support and gratitude to the many consumers in Matabeleland and Zimbabwe as a whole,” said Ziswa.
“We hope that these sheets will make the children’s stay in hospital as comfortable as possible given the situation. Dr Mantiziba, we acknowledge the great work that you and your team at the hospital are doing in challenging conditions.”
