AFTER pushing champion South African rider, Nolan Hoffman to a sprint finish at the 105km Bambos Road Race in Harare last weekend, Unimills-Hokoyo riders are confident of doing well in the 25th edition of the 947 Ride Joburg that begins early this morning.
The seven-member Unimills-Hokoyo team will be part of a 25 000-man peloton will tackle a brutal 94,7-kilometre course. The riders will tackle the second largest timed road race course in the world. There will be plenty of big names lining up in Johannesburg but the lads from Bulawayo are ready for the challenges having been dominant on recent road races across Zimbabwe.
All eyes will be on Unimills-Hokoyo riders on the start line, with Advocate Phiri, Nkulumo Dube and Andrew Chikwaka all expected to hold their own in the peloton. The trio are the top favourites for gold having swept countless races before them in recent local, including one that also featured race favourite Hoffman.
Coached by retired racer, Chris Kazingizi, the Unimills-Hokoyo team brings a team of climbers well-suited to the terrain in Chikwaka, Dube, Phiri, Thulani Dube, Solomon Mugavazi and Amos Machazi. Although they are all debuting at an international event, they are all excellent contenders. — @RealSimbaJemwa
