BLUE RIBBON Stars’ coach Misheck Chidzambwa has been challenged to finish in the top eight and get a car for keeps.
The challenge was made by one of Blue Ribbon’s sponsors, Solomon Sanyamandwe, when he presented the coach with an imported metallic grey Toyota Raum 1.6 litre vehicle.
Chidzambwa received the car at a brief ceremony in the capital.
Sanyamandwe, through his company Gabtronics, said the car would be used as a courtesy vehicle by the coach until the end of the season but offered to transfer the car into Chidzambwa’s name if he gets a top eight finish.
“We have given this car to Blue Ribbon Stars coach for his duties.
“As a company we have been doing a lot of work for Blue Ribbon and this is one small way of giving back by donating a car for the coach.
“If the team finishes in the top eight, then we will transfer the car into Chidzambwa’s name,” he said.
Sanyamandwe, a former executive member at Dynamos during Morrison Sifelani’s last tenure of office in 2004, has also pledged to help Tamba Wakaguta, as Blue Ribbon Stars are affectionately known by their small band of supporters, with incentives.
“We shall also provide some incentives to the team for the big games against Dynamos and CAPS United,” said Sanyamandwe.
Chidzambwa does not to worry about servicing the vehicle as Blue Ribbon’s partners, Martco Auto Repairs, have undertaken to carry out all the repairs free of charge this year.
“As Martco we service all Blue Ribbon vehicles and will also attend to any mechanical problem on the coach’s car for free this year,” said Martin Jack from Martco.
Chidzambwa, a former Warriors coach, believes the carrot dangled before him by Sanyamandwe will not put pressure on him to deliver.
“It’s a good gesture by the sponsors. This is surely a good motivation for me as the coach and obviously for rest of the technical department,” said Chidzambwa.
“It’s a target (top-eight) can that be reached. We will try to do even better but if God decides that we do not reach the targets, then so be it.”
Chidzambwa has beefed up his charges by getting former Dynamos rightback Brighton Tuwaya whose experience is expected to steady the newboys.
“So far our pre-season preparations are going on well. We are taking one step at time,” said the coach.
