WAR veterans have been urged to unite, work together and desist from fanning factionalism to ensure a zanu-pf victory in the forthcoming harmonised elections.
Speaking at a meeting held in Mutare on Friday, Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans’ Association secretary-general Cde Victor Matemadanda urged war veterans to be disciplined and support President Mnangagwa and zanu-pf.
“Let’s unite and make sure that zanu-pf wins in the forthcoming elections,” he said. “It is important to remain disciplined and united. No individual is bigger than the party. Any individual who tries to grow big-headed will be chucked out of the party.
“zanu-pf is the people’s party and no individual is bigger than it. The primary elections that were held recently should unite us and I urge those who did not win to support those who did. It’s zanu-pf that won and not individuals. We should not be our own enemies.”
Cde Matemadanda said it was critical for war veterans to work together and make sure that zanu-pf takes back the two seats in Manicaland which were in the hands of the MDC-T.
He said President Mnangagwa had worked hard to restore the country which war veterans had fought for.
“Let me assure you, victory is certain for zanu-pf” he said. “The country is in the correct hands under President Mnangagwa. He has worked very hard to eradicate corruption and mend relations with the international community.
“We should go and vote for him and the party. Go and work for the party.”
Cde Matemadanda said plans were afoot for former liberation fighters to visit several shrines in Mozambique and Zambia where fallen liberation war cadres were laid to rest.
