United Bulawayo Hospital (UBH) and Police in Bulawayo are appealing for information that may lead to the whereabouts of Vimbai Gunda’s relatives. Gunda gave birth to a healthy baby girl on 11 June this year at the health institution.
Speaking to the media on Friday, UBH Principal Nursing Officer Sikhangezile Moyo said they suspect that Gunda is mentally challenged and does not know where her relatives can be found, and where she comes from. She has been kept at the hospital since June.
“Due to her mental challenge, we cannot release her. We are appealing for information that may lead to the whereabouts of her relatives. Any organisation that can assist in keeping her can come forward to see the hospital authorities or they can phone any nearest police station.”
Bulawayo Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube echoed the same sentiments and thanked the hospital staff and police for the kind gesture they showed towards Gunda.
“We would like to thank the hospital staff for the kind gesture they have shown to Gunda as she gave birth well and to a healthy baby girl. We would also like to thank the police for transporting her to the hospital,” he said.
The story about Gunda was first published by B-Metro two months ago stating that she was homeless and lived in Nketa 9 suburb shops, Bulawayo. Residents in the suburb told this publication that she was abused by unknown men and fell pregnant.
