THE United Nations (UN) has commended the Government for its commitment to rebuild the country’s economy and mend international relations.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has, since coming to power, pledged to rebuild the country’s economy and normalise relations with the international community.
In a statement yesterday, the UN System in Zimbabwe said it welcomes the new political dispensation after the President’s commitment to uphold human rights while improving the country’ economy.
“The United Nations (UN) System in Zimbabwe welcomes the expressed commitment of the Government towards: social cohesion and peace; economic recovery and job creation; improved quality delivery of social services; anti-corruption; accelerated reform efforts including in the public sector; human security; credible, transparent and peaceful elections in 2018; and re-engagement with the international community,” reads the UN statement.
It said it will assist the country in rebuilding the country’s economy as the authorities re-engage the international community and international financial institutions.
It said the country’s National Budget Statement for 2018 was sound showing the Government’s commitment towards reviving the economy.
“We also take note of the policy shifts and measures towards economic recovery, stabilisation and inclusive growth through employment creation. Timely disbursements and efficient use of the allocated budgets would be critical,” reads the statement.
It pledged to support the Government through its initiatives to promote accountability in the public sector and deliver social services.
