United to spend more

LONDON. — Manchester United’s lavish spending has not finished. In January another £50 million has been allocated to sign more players in the wake of this summer’s £150m-plus spending spree which culminated in the signing of Radamel Falcao. Arturo Vidal, Mats Hummels and Sami Khedira remain top targets.

Juan Mata will be sold in January to accommodate a second wave of rebuilding under Dutch manager Louis van Gaal.

When United signed their hugely lucrative new kit deal with Adidas in July it was said to have given them the potential to sign “a Suárez every year”.

United will not be signing Barcelona’s former Liverpool striker of course — although stranger things have happened — but given it took £75 million to take the Uruguayan to the Catalan club, £15 million more than United paid to acquire Ángel di María from Real. — The Telegraph.
