Unity must prevail in Zifa elections

AS we approach the upcoming Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) elections, it’s crucial for all stakeholders — players, coaches, fans, sponsors, and administrators — to recognise the gravity of this moment for Zimbabwean football. This election represents a pivotal opportunity to reshape the future of our beloved sport, and it is imperative that we take this responsibility seriously.

For too long, our football has been mired in controversy, mismanagement, and under-performance on both national and club levels. The consequences of these issues have been felt deeply, from the diminishing morale of our national teams to the decline of local leagues that once thrived. This election is not just about choosing new leadership; it is about restoring our football’s integrity, competitiveness, and international standing.

Stakeholders must ensure that the right decisions are made throughout this process. We cannot afford to let personal interests or political agendas cloud our judgment. It is essential to prioritise candidates who have a clear vision for the future of Zimbabwean football, backed by a solid plan for development and growth. This includes investing in grassroots programmes, improving training facilities, and fostering talent at young ages so that we can cultivate a new generation of skilled players.

Moreover, transparency and accountability should be non-negotiable principles for the incoming leadership. We need a Zifa that operates with integrity and is answerable to the fans and the public. A commitment to good governance will help restore trust among stakeholders and encourage more support for our teams and leagues.
